In a nutshell:  There is controversy regarding how best to treat the younger, athletic patient with advanced arthritis.  This review article looks at the range of treatment options, grading the level of evidence in support of each one.  Nonsurgical management may improve symptoms but does not alter disease process.  Surgical treatments offer a potential solution and allow a return to athletic activity
