In a nutshell: European-funded project ENDURE  (Enhance Durability Resurfacing Endoprosthesis) had developed a new kind of hip implant that provides a metal-free solution with bone-like elasticity.  Preclinical studies have been completed and have shown some good wear resistance.  Final development is being planned with clinical studies ready to commence.
