Publication type:  Guidance

In a nutshell:  This guidance concerns the partial replacement of the meniscus using a biodegradable scaffold.  There are no major concerns about the safety of the procedure but nor is there much evidence that the procedure is better than standard surgery.  This procedure should only be carried out by experienced knee cartilage surgeons with full patient consent and monitoring procedures.  NICE is encouraging future research into this type of  keyhole surgery.
