Total hip arthroplasty superior to internal fixation for lucid patients

In a nutshell:  A 15 year follow up study shows that for lucid patients THA is superior to internal fixation for the treatment of a displaced femoral neck fracture.  The failure rate for THA at 5% is significantly lower compared to internal fixation at 56%.  This does not apply to patients with mental impairment
