In a nutshell:  The aim of this procedure, used on younger people, is to lighten the load on the knee when the person is standing by inserting a load absorber. This reduces pain and potentially delays the need for further surgery. Current evidence on the safety and efficacy for this procedure is inadequate in quantity and quality. Therefore, this procedure should only be used in the context of research.
