In a nutshell: 259 patients who underwent total joint arthroplasty with a length of stay of 3 or more nights were retrospectively reviewed. The patients had to fulfil 14 medical criteria by postoperative day 2 to be considered safe for admission to a skilled nursing facility. The authors found that over 47% of patients met discharge criteria after two nights, rather than after a 3-night stay.
