In a nutshell:   looked at 420 outpatient hip replacements out of a total of 63,844 THA patients, concluding that they were not at any greater risk of 30-day adverse events or readmission than those that were done as inpatient procedures.

Outpatient surgery as a means of cost reduction in total hip arthroplasty: a case-control study

In a nutshell:  Compares outcomes and cost-effectiveness of traditional implant THA with outpatient hip replacement at the same facility.  119 THA outpatients were compared with inpatient THA cases operated on by the same surgeon.  Complications, length of stay, demographic data and overall costs were compared between groups.
